About Katy Boatman

Experience and credentials matter. Katy has specialized in appellate work for her entire career, practicing before the First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals countless times. That is why Katy Boatman is seeking a seat on the First Court of Appeals.

Katy is a native Texan who was educated in Texas. She graduated with honors from Texas A & M University. She then attended Baylor Law School, where she graduated with honors and served as executive editor of the Baylor Law Review. She clerked for Justice Dale Wainwright of the Texas Supreme Court and Justice Jennifer Elrod of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has spent her career since then as an appellate specialist at Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP, a well-respected national law firm. She has practiced in front of the First Court of Appeals countless times.

Katy is committed to the rule of law. She believes in fair, consistent, and efficient justice. She will not legislate from the bench.

In 2016, Katy was named the National Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year, as well as the Outstanding Young Lawyer of Texas and of Houston. She is the only lawyer from Houston ever to win all three of those awards. She has also been recognized for several years by Texas Lawyer as a Rising Star in appellate law.

Katy served for four years on the Board of Directors of the Texas Young Lawyers Association. She was elected by her peers because of her strong commitment to the legal profession. Since then, she has also served on the Houston Young Lawyers Association’s Board of Directors. She serves her community through Yellowstone Academy, The Women’s Home, and many other groups. Katy has also long supported conservative judges in Harris County and beyond, and she has long been a member of the Federalist Society.

Katy and her husband, Dr. Logan Boatman, are the parents of three young children. Logan is a radiologist specializing in the detection of breast cancer, with an active medical practice at Houston Methodist.

The Boatmans worship at Grace Bible Church in the Heights and provide premarital counseling to engaged couples. They enjoy spending time with their three children, cooking at home, and biking.
